
Dr. Parameshwara hails from a family committed to Gandhian ideals. When the late Rajiv Gandhi visited Tumkur, he immediately saw the potential in Dr. Parameshwara and brought him into active politics.
He was first appointed as the Joint Secretary of the KPCC.
Smt. Sonia Gandhi recognized Dr. Parameshwara’s capabilities by appointing him as Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee. He has also served as Chairman of the Campaign Committee for the KPCC and as its Vice President and General Secretary.
He has been elected to the Assembly four times. He represented Madhugiri in 1989, 1999, and 2004, and, after delimitation, Koratagere in 2008. He has built a broad base of supporters from across Dalits, major communities, backward castes and minorities.
Dr. Parameshwara served as Minister for Sericulture (1993-94) and Minister for Higher Education (1999-2004). He was instrumental in establishing Tumkur University.
Hailing from a Dalit background, Dr. Parameshwara is a highly-educated agricultural scientist with a PhD from Australia. An all-rounder, he was an active sportsman and also won many scholarships during his studies.
As an educationist, Dr. Parameshwara runs the Siddhartha group of institutions in Tumkur, that has provided affordable, quality education to lakhs of poor, rural students.
